Do you live in an apartment, condo or a house with a small backyard?
Have you always wanted a garden but think you don’t have enough space for a productive garden?
Growing some of your own fruits and vegetables has been a dream for a long time, and you are looking for some inspiration . Or perhaps your dream is to create a spot where you can relax among gorgeous colour and greenery on your balcony or patio
You’re not sure how to get started.
So many questions spring to mind…
- What are the best plants for a beginner gardener?
- What will grow well in a container?
- How can I grow my own greens and salad vegetables?
- Is it possible to grow berries and herbs in my small space?
- Will I have the time to do this gardening thing properly?
- How can I turn my little balcony into a beautiful and calming spot?
I get what you’re going through, because I’ve recently faced some of the same problems.
Hi, I’m Nicki
I lived with gardening all my life, growing up on a farm where we had a huge garden that supplied all our needs. I learned a lot, helping with the planting, weeding and harvesting.
When I married and started a family, I planted a garden every year. We enjoyed fresh vegetables, herbs and berries, all organically grown, all on a small city lot.
After moving to an acreage, we built a small greenhouse, fenced our first garden plot, built raised beds and set up a 3-part composting center.
And the gardening was both challenging and fun. One year, I lost all my tomatoes to a couple of ravenous deer that managed to squeeze through the fence. Another year they ate my dahlias – dozens of plants!
But things changed
Alas… when we moved to a condo the only space I had to work with was a small patio and a postage-stamp sized yard.
I had to figure out how to grow what I wanted in a very limited space.
I read all I could find about vertical gardening, square-foot gardening and container gardening. Before long, I’d learned a great deal about the best methods for small space gardening, and I put into practice what I read.
I created this site to inspire you to “green up” your own small space. I’d like to help you discover the pleasure and satisfaction of growing some of your own food, even if it’s only a few ripe juicy tomatoes or some aromatic herbs grown in a container on your patio.
The best part is, anyone can do this. You don’t need a large garden or expensive gardening tools. You only need a spot with sun, a source of water and your own green thumb.
